At top and left, fireworks lit up the sky over Mackerel Cove on Saturday night, while on Sunday (above and right), many showed their true colors during the annual North End parade.

Look for the video special on Cox Sports Channel 3 at 12:30 p.m. following a live football game. There was an artillery demonstration with Revolutionary War-era reenactors, who also set up camp. The Jamestown Community Band provided appropriate music for the occasion.

Frigid cold weather for the penguins

This story contains a video The thermometer registered a frosty 10 degrees on Thursday, Jan. 1, at noon for the 33rd annual Penguin Plunge at Mackerel Cove. However, the wind chill made it feel like minus 7 degrees. About two hundred hardy souls braved the chilly temperatures for their New Year's dip in the bay. Proceeds from the event benefit the Special Olympics.
